faux beauty blender sponge

I'm sure you've all probably heard of the beauty blender. It's basically a glorified makeup sponge that you run under water and then use to apply liquid products to your skin. However, the original beauty blender is around £15 - £20, which is pretty pricey when there are dupes out there for a fraction of the price. This is where the 'faux' part comes in. The sponge in the photograph is the Cosmopolitan dupe of the sponge.

I thought I'd take a picture of the sponge before it's been run under water (the one on the left, which is actually brand new) and after its been run under water (on the right). As you can see it expands in size, quite dramatically which prevents it soaking up your product, since it's saturated with water. I really love the sponge because it's so easy! You haven't got to worry about buffing in your foundation, you just literally bounce the sponge on your face and it blends it out perfectly. The pointed side is really great for blending out under-eye concealer. I think everyone needs this sponge - I've even bought Scarlett one for our next swap box, but shh don't tell her!

Maybelline The Falsies Mascara

I picked this up because I've heard so many people recommend it and I really haven't been impressed with any mascara a recently so I've been on the hunt for one and there can't be any harm in trying. This lives up to its fantastic reputation - it's amazing. It gives really good volume as well as length and really helps give your lashes a little umph! It lengthens and thickens my lashes whilst making them stand out against my eyes. The moulded wand really helps to get all of your lashes without making a mess all over your eyelid. The only issue I've really had with this mascara is that it dries really quite quick so if you want to layer up, you're going to need to it one eye at a time or it's just going to end up messy!

Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint

I'm sure you're all aware of the new nail polishes from Barry M, the Gelly Hi-Shine range. Barry M are really affordable and have such a wide range of colours! I decided I'd pick a few up and give them a try. I picked up Blueberry, Lychee and Pomegranate. The consistency of these is really lovely. Sometimes Barry M can be a little thin and you really have to layer up the coats to get an opaque colour on your nails, however you can get a really lovely coverage in two coats because the consistency is really quite thick. Blueberry is probably my favourite colour from the whole collection. I got so many compliments on my nails when I was wearing this! It's such a beautiful blue/almost purple colour. coverage in two coats! There are some other really lovely colours in the collection and I will be picking up a few more soon!

April favourites

Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo in On & On Bronze - I'm pretty lazy when it comes to eye makeup so this is the perfect thing for me. All I have to do is whack a bit on my eyelid and blend it out. It's the most beautiful colour that is subtle enough for daytime wear or you could really make it dramatic for the evening!

Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Bootycall (Naked 2 Palette) - I was a bit late on the hype of this palette but like I said, I'm really lazy with eye makeup but I thought I'd give it ago and I've completely fallen in love with bootycall. I've been using it just on the outer part of my eyelid on top of the Maybelline Color Tattoo and it's beautiful!

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer - I've really enjoyed using this concealer. I typically use the YSL Touché Éclat under my eyes however I'm coming to the end of a tube and the thought of spending all that money really upset me so I thought I'd see what Rimmel had to offer since I've really been impressed with them lately. This is really light and brightening which is exactly what I've been looking for.

Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint in Blueberry - I don't think I've ever mentioned a nail varnish in my favourites but I really love this. I got so many compliments on my nails when I was wearing this! It's such a beautiful blue/almost purple colour. I really like the consistency too - it's quite thick which I really like and you can get a really opaque coverage in two coats!

Maybelline The Falsies Mascara - I picked this up because I've heard so many people recommend it and I really haven't been impressed with any mascara a recently so I thought there was no harm in trying. This lives up to its fantastic reputation - it's amazing. It gives really good volume as well as length and really helps give your lashes a little umph!

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum - this is also something I picked up because I've heard so much about it! It's a really lovely, lightweight medium coverage foundation that gives a glowy/dewy look which is what I like for the summer months. It has a really lovely scent and its really easy to blend into the skin. I really like this foundation and I've already stocked up on another one!

MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation

I've heard so many people rave about this foundation so I thought I'd bite the bullet and try it out. I was matched in store by an artist to NC20 however when I got home I realised it was way too orange for me. I gave the store a call and they were really great and offered to exchange it for me, which I did for NC15. This is a really good colour match for me!

I work in retail, which involves 9 hour shifts and as you can imagine quite a bit of running around and so this foundation was being put to the ultimate test. Unfortunately, it didn't quite withstand those 9 hour shifts and I'm really quite disappointed. I've heard so many great things about this foundation and so I really thought it would impress me. I'm sad to say that this really didn't impress me and it's not something I would buy again, except maybe for a situation where I needed a flawless base that didn't need to last long.
